The hardening of the arteries is arteriosclerosis, Atherosclerosis is more about a fatty build up under the endothelium, narrowing the lumen.

Competitive inhibition IS irreversible and yeah atherosclerosis is fatty build up not hardening; that's arteriosclerosis
