Biology-DNA and the genetic code

HideShow resource information
Which two scientists discovered the structure of the DNA molecule?
Francis Crick and James Watson but other scientists were involved like Avery. C and W used chemical theory and ball-and-stick atomic models to work out the structure. The data to allow them to do this came from a technique called x-ray crystallography
1 of 7
What is DNA
a nucleic acid.
2 of 7
describe the structure of DNA
has two long chains of alternating sugar and phosphate molecules which are twisted into a shape called a double helix.Chains are joined by bases.the 4 bases are A C G AND T.
3 of 7
describe the A C G AND T bases in dna.
adenine, cytosine, guanine, thymine.the order they occur along the chain forms a code which determines the order different amino acids are linked together to form different proteins.A pair to T. C pair to G.
4 of 7
what is a triplet code?
a sequence of 2 bases along the DNA chan which codes for each amino acid
5 of 7
why is DNA so important?
one of most important chemicals known to man.Chemical which gives instructions for every cell to work-by determining which amino acids are linked together to form different proteins that the cells needs in order to work.Cause DNA controls which prote
