What are all living things made up with?
All living things are made up of cells.
1 of 22
What are the parts of the animal cell?
Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria, ribosomes
2 of 22
What are the parts of the plant cell?
Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria, ribosomes, cell wall, chloroplasts, and permanent vacuole.
3 of 22
What is the job of the Nucleus?
Contains genetic material, which controls the activities of the cell
4 of 22
What is the job of a cytoplasm?
Most chemical processes take place here, controlled by enzymes
5 of 22
What is the job of the cell membrane?
Controls the movement of substances into and out of the cell.
6 of 22
What is the job of mitochondria?
Most energy is released by respiration here.
7 of 22
What is the job of ribosomes?
Protein synthesis happens here.
8 of 22
What is the job of the cell walls?
Strengthens the cell
9 of 22
What is the job chloroplast?
Contain chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis
10 of 22
What is the job of the Permanent vacuole?
Filled with cell sap to help keep the cell turgid
11 of 22
What is bacteria cell?
Bacterica is a single cell organism, it has a different cell structure to plant and animal it has a membrane and a surrounding cell wall, but the genetic material in a bacterial cell is not in a distinct nucleus.
12 of 22
What is yeast cell?
Yeast is a single-celled organism. It’s Like bacterial cells, yeast cells have cytoplasm and a membrane surrounded by a cell wall. But unlike bacterial cells, yeast cells have a nucleus.
13 of 22
What does a leaf cell do?
The leaf cell absorbs light energy for photosynthesis
14 of 22
How has an leaf cell adapted for it purpose
Packed with chloroplasts. Regular shaped, closely packed cells form a continuous layer for efficient absorption of sunlight.
15 of 22
What does a root hair cell do?
Absorbs water and mineral ions from the soil.
16 of 22
How has a root hair cell adapted for it purpose?
Long 'finger-like' process with very thin wall, which gives a large surface area.
17 of 22
What does a sperm cell do?
Fertilises an egg cell - female gamete
18 of 22
How does an sperm cell adapted for it purpose?
The head contains genetic information and an enzyme to help penetrate the egg cell membrane. The middle section is packed with mitochondria for energy. The tail moves the sperm to the egg.
19 of 22
What function of a red blood cell?
What function of a red blood cell?
20 of 22
How has an red blood cell adapted for it purpose?
Thin outer membrane to let oxygen diffuse through easily. Shape increases the surface area to allow more oxygen to be absorbed efficiently. No nucleus, so the whole cell is full of haemoglobin.
21 of 22
What is diffusion and when does it occur?
Diffusion occurs when particles spread. They move from a region where they are in high concentration to a region where they are in low concentration. Diffusion happens when the particles are free to move. This is how the smell of cooking travels arou
