biology-Cell division,mitosis and meiosis

?
what are the two types of cell division and processes in animal and plants?
mitosis and meiosis
1 of 9
what is mitosis?
the normal type of cell division+most common.Produces new cells for growth, repair of tissues and to replace worn out cells.New cells need chromosomes so c of mother cells duplicate+each new cells gets one of the duplicate sets.
2 of 9
what is meiosis?
special type which only happens when gametes are made.if gametes received full set of chromosomes, when fertilisation occurred the new organism would have twice normal number of chromosomes, and would not survive.happens in only gamete producing organs

what are the features of mitosis?
takes place in all tissues of plant+animal body expect those that form gametes(sex cells).Provides cells for growth, repair+replacement of old cells.2 new daughter cells formed.each new cell-full set of chromosomes.new cells-genetically identical to e

how does meiosis differ from mitosis?
meiosis only takes place in tissues which form sex cells.4 cells formed bc meiosis is double division.each daughter cell-half set of chromosomes.each of new cells is genetically different.New cells change into gametes which are different from MC.
7 of 9
why is cell division carried out?
skin cells are continually lost so to make new cells the body carry outs this.
8 of 9
advantages of being multi cellular
can grow longer, become more complex e.g. develop organ systems
