Biology B2: Enzymes

?
What are enzymes?
Protein molecules which are biological CATALYSTS.
1 of 8
What do Enzymes do?
Enzymes change (speed up!) the rate of chemical reactions!
2 of 8
Are Enzymes alive?
NO!
3 of 8
What do you say if an Enzyme gets broken?
It has been DENATURED.
4 of 8
Are Enzymes affected by the reaction?
No. They're not effected! (Unless the temperature denatured the enzyme)
5 of 8
How many times can an Enzyme be used?
Unlimited! (Unless the temperature denatured the enzyme)
6 of 8
Why do we use Enzymes in Bio Detergent washing power?
Using Bio Detergent washing power means clothes can be washed at a lower temperature, as extra heat is not required to speed up the reaction, saving energy! (Note: They can cause skin irritation, so some use no-bio if that happens)
7 of 8
What is the active site?
The active site is a small port in an enzyme where substrate molecules bind and undergo a chemical reaction
