Why do repeats improve reliability?
reduce effect of anomalies, gives reliable mean
1 of 11
What do you pick out when describing results?
general trend and specific quoted data
2 of 11
What does standard deviation show?
spread of data about/around the mean
3 of 11
Where should the independent variable appear in tables and graphs?
left-hand column of tables, x-axis of graphs
4 of 11
How can data be standardised?
record/maintain time taken to do something or between doing things. use the same number of repeats each time and make clear how many have been done
5 of 11
When should plotted points be joined with straight lines?
when you are unsure about intermediate values
6 of 11
How can accuracy be improved?
by using measuring instruments with a higher resolution
7 of 11
What are anomalies?
results that are not judged to be part of the variation caused by random uncertainty
8 of 11
How do you obtain valid data?
by controlling variables other than the independent variable
9 of 11
What should you consider when evaluating a conclusion?
Correlation- what relationship is there between variables and what does this show? Reliability- have repeats been done/has a large-scale trial been used? Consider other contributing factors/variables.
10 of 11
How should control groups be treated?
they should be given a placebo but treated the same.
