list the structures which are found in both animal and plant cells.
cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, mitochondria, ribosomes.
1 of 10
give three features of a plant or algal cell which are not found in animal cells.
cell wall, chloroplasts, permanent vacuole filled with sap
2 of 10
where do most chemical reactions take place in a cell?
in the cytoplasm
3 of 10
name three organs in the human digestive system.
three of: salivary glands, pancreas, stomach, liver, small intestines, large intestines.
4 of 10
what chemical produced by the liver aids digestion?
bile
5 of 10
give two differences between a plant leaf cell and a yeast cell.
leaf cells have chloroplasts and a cellulose cell wall. yeast does not have chloroplasts and no cellulose in its wall.
6 of 10
when, and in which direction, will diffusion take place in solutions and in gases?
if two solutions are separated by a cell membrane, particles will move from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration. gases will also through the air from a region of high concentration to region of low concentration.
7 of 10
what is meant by the term 'differentiation of cells'?
when cells start to divide they are very similar.as the tissues develop the cells change to form particular cells with particular functions.
8 of 10
how is a leaf cell adapted to carry out photosynthesis?
the leaf has mesophyll tissue. the mesophyll cells contain chloroplasts which can photosynthesise.
9 of 10
describe in detail what happens to food as it passes through the digestive system.
the insoluble food is mixed with digestive juices produced by glands. it is digested in the stomach and small intestine. bile produced by the liver is added to the food to help digestion.
