Name two waste products in the body that need to be removed.
Carbon dioxide and urea.
1 of 11
Name the part of the brain that controls body temperature.
Thermoregulatory centre.
2 of 11
Describe two ways that the brain monitors body monitors.
Contains receptors that are sensitive to the temperature of the blood flowing through the brain. It also recieves impulses from the skin, giving information about skin temperature.
3 of 11
Describe three ways in which the body responds to rise in temperature.
Hairs lie flat/sweat produced by sweat glands and evaporates from the skin, which removes heat/blood vessels supplying the skin dilate, so more blood flows close to the skin's surface, making it easier for heat to be lost into the environment.

State the three main functions of the kidneys.
1.They remove urea from the blood. 2.Adjust the blood's ion content. 3.Make sure blood contains the right amount of water.

The diagram shows the human urinary system. Name the structure labelled X.
Kidney.

What is the function of the bladder?
To store urine.
7 of 11
Describe three ways in which the body responds to a drop in temperature.
Hairs stand on end, which traps a layer of warm air next to the skin/sweat production stops/blood vessels constrict to close off the skin's blood supply.

If someone's kidneys fail they may be given a kidney transplant,or use a dialysis machine. A dialysis machine does the job of the kidneys and filters the blood. what three substances would you expect a dialysis machine to remove from the blood?
Urea, ions and water.
9 of 11
Suggest a reason why people with kidney failure are often advised to eat low-salt diets.
Excess salt has to be removed from the body by the kidneys. Reducing the amount of salt in the diet reduces the amount of work that they kidneys have to do/this reduces the chance of a dangerous build-up of salt between dialysis sessions.

One of the substances that sport drinks contain is water. Give two other substances that sports drinks contain. For each of the substances, explain why they are present in sports drinks.
Ions-replace those lost in sweat. Sugar-replaces the sugar that's used up by muscles during exercise.
