Whats a Stimulus?
It's a change in your environment that you may need to react to
1 of 11
What are Receptors
they are groups of cells which are sensitive to a stimulus
2 of 11
What do receptors do?
They change stimulus energy(e.g light energy) into electrical impulses
3 of 11
What are sensory Neurones?
The nerve cells that carry signals as electrical impulses from the receptors to the central nervous system
4 of 11
What are motor Neurones?
The nerve cells that carry signals to the effector muscles or glands
5 of 11
What are effectors?
muscles and glands(they respond in different ways).Muscles contract in response to a nervous impulse whereas glands secrete hormones
6 of 11
where is all the information from the sense organ sent?
The central nervous system
7 of 11
What does the central nervous system consist of?
the brain and spinal cord.
8 of 11
Whats the passage of information in a reflex called?
Reflex arc
9 of 11
what happens when a stimulus is detected?
An impulse is sent along a sensory neurone to the spinal cord. The spinal cord then passes on a message to the relay neurone, the impulses is sent to a motor neurone this then travels to the effector, the effector then reacts.
10 of 11
Whats the connection between two neurones called?
Synapse
