Why do plants respire?
Plants respire because they use some of the glucose produced during photosynthesis as they respire.
1 of 12
What is the main storage substance in plants?
The main storage substance in plants is starch and is found all over a plant.
2 of 12
What is photosynthesis controlled by?
Enzymes-this is because they work best in warmer weather .
3 of 12
Why do plans grow faster in a greenhouse than outside?
Its much more controllable than outside - its much more warmer inside than out.
4 of 12
What are hydroponics?
Hydroponics plants that can be grown in water within a perfect balance of mineral ions.
5 of 12
Describe three things that a gardener could do to make sure she grows a good crops of tomatoes.
increase levels of of carbon dioxide & artificial light & make sure temperature doesn't become a limiting factor!
6 of 12
How do nutrient level affect the distribution of plants like the Venus fly trap?
The level of mineral ions (e.g. nitrate ions) available has big impacts on the distribution of plants.Carnivorous plants such as Venus flyingtraps thrive where nirates levels are very low because they can trap and digest animal prey.
7 of 12
How do carbon dioxide levels affect the distribution of plants?
The carbon dioxide levels affects the level of distribution of plants as CO2 is a limiting factor on photosynhesis plant growth.
8 of 12
What are the physical factors most likely to affect living organism?
Temperature,Nutrients,Amount of light,Availability of water and Availability of oxygen and carbon dioxide.
9 of 12
What is a habitat?
the natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism.
10 of 12
What is a quadrat?
A quadrat is usually a square frame made of wood or metal that you lay on the ground. This outlines your sample area.
11 of 12
Describe one way of using a transect to find out how an organism is distributed across an area.
A transect is line across a habitat or part of a habitat. It can be as simple as a string or rope placed in a line on the ground. The number of organisms of each species can be observed and recorded at regular intervals along the transect.
