?
What does the brain do?
senses, memory, heartbeat, pain reflex action& pleasure, breathing, movement, emotions.
1 of 21
What does the Frontal lobe do?
emotion,mood,personality,problem solving.
2 of 21
What does the Pariental lobe do?
Temperature, pain, pressure.
3 of 21
What does the temporal lobe do?
Hearing, Language, speech.
4 of 21
What does the Brain stem do?
Regulating vital bodily functions.
5 of 21
What does the cerebellum do?
Balance, co-ordination.
6 of 21
What does the Occitpital lobe do?
vision, imagining.
7 of 21
What is a CT scan?
a computer that takes data from several 2-d x-ray images turning them into 3-d images on the moniter. It helps diagnosis in medicine.
8 of 21
Advantages & Disadvantages of a CT scan?
ad- diagnose medical conditions, check symptoms of an existing condition. Dis- source of ionizing radiation, can cause cancer.
9 of 21
What is a PET scan?
Helps diagnose a range of different cancers and find the best way to treat them. Shows how far the cancer has spread and how its responding to the treatment.
10 of 21
Advantages & Disadvantages of a PET scan?
ad- small movements do not ruin the scan, pet has been used for many diagnosis of diseases. Dis- Image does not show as clearly as FMRI, expensive.
11 of 21
What is a FMRI scan?
a technique for measuring brain activity,it works by detecting the changes in blood oxygenation and flow respose to neural activity.Used in important brain surgeries.
12 of 21
Advantages & Disadvantages of a FMRI scan?
ad- can resolve down to 3 cubic millimetres. Dis- any tiny movement can ruin the images
13 of 21
What is a MIR scan?
takes images of almost all the tissue in the body, it can find info about different types of tissue. Changes in the tissues of the brain can help with diagnosis and so determine treatment.
14 of 21
Advantages & Disadvantages of a MIR scan?
ad-contains no ionizing radiation, no documented side effects. Dis- sit till for an hour leading up to claustrophobia, very noisy and is affected by movement.

Definition of a drug:
a drug is a chemical that affects the chemical reactions on you body/brain.
16 of 21
What does a stimulant do?
quickens reactions in your brain. ALERT.
17 of 21
What does a dipressant do?
relaxes you/ slows down reactions in your body.slows down reflexes e.g. alcohol.
18 of 21
What does a painkiller do?
reduces sensitivity to pain.
19 of 21
Story of tobacco-
contains-tar- increases throat/lung cancer, makes you cough. Nicotine- the addictive ingrediant. Carbon Monoxide- attaches to red blood cells and removes the oxygen. Never smoke when pregnant may lead to pre-mature/uderweight births
20 of 21
Story of alcohol-
can increase organ cancer e.g liver give you diseases and poison you.
