What are alleles?
Different forms of the same gene
1 of 5
What does recessive mean?
Some alleles only control the development of a characteristic if they are present on both chromosomes - in other words, if no dominant allele is present. We use a lower case letter to represent them e.g. d
2 of 5
If you were heterozygous, what would your genotype be?
Different alleles for a characteristic e.g. Dd

How do fossils provide evidence that species alive today have evolved from simpler organisms?
1) Fossil is an organism that lived a long time ago 2) Fossils show changes over time, older fossils are simpler, fossils simpler than present-day species 3) Fossils have similar features to present-day species
4 of 5
Suggest an explanation for the development of different species in different areas
The population in the different part could have been varied with different alleles. Natural selection could gave acted on the isolated populations. There could have been different environmental conditions e.g. climate, predators, food.
