Why do doctors not rely simply on BMI measurements?

What happens if you take in more energy than you use?
If you take in more energy than you use, the excess is stored as fat. If you eat too much over a long period of time, you will eventually become obese. To lose weight you need to eat less and exercise more.

A balanced diet is a diet which includes all the nutrients in the correct amounts that the body needs to work properly.

Why do teenage girls need more iron than teenage boys?
Teenage girls are likely to have started their periods and so they loose blood during menstruation from the red blood cells. In order to replace the red blood cells, teenage girls need to intake more iron.

Why were sailors likely to get scurvy?
Because you would be less likely to eat fruit and veg as they would not preserve for months. And as fruit and veg is eaten fresh, once the sailors had eaten them, there would be none left as there would be no supply.

How can someone be fit but be malnourished?
They might do regular exercise but they lack or consume too much of a certain nutrient, making them fit but malnourished.

Because men have more muscle than women and men have bigger builds than women.
