What are the advantages of a double circulatory system over a single?
more oxygen is sufficiently supplied to all body parts
1 of 11
pulmonary circulation: supplies blood to lungs
systematic: supplies blood to the rest of the body
2 of 11
pressure in the left ventricle is higher because it pumps blood all over body
pressure in right ventricle is lower which helps for a gas exchange in the lungs
3 of 11
artery; blood away from the heart
veins:blood to the heart
4 of 11
Liver: Hepatic
heart: aorta and vena cava
5 of 11
renal: kidneys
hepatic portal vein goes from intestines to liver
6 of 11
heart requires it's own coronary circulation
this supplies the heart with oxygen and nutrients- coronary arteries
7 of 11
the coronary arteries come up from base of the aorta
the cardiac cycle consists of pressure changes
8 of 11
What happens during atrial systole?
the atria contract, pushing blood into ventricles. AV valves are open and SL valves are shut
9 of 11
Ventricular systole
ventricles contract;pressure of ventricles increeases and AV valves shut. SL valves open.artrial pressure gradually increases
10 of 11
diastole
both atria and ventricles relax.SL valves are forced shut.AV valves become open again.
