Classification is putting different species into groups according to their features
1 of 15
What is natural classification?
grouping by genetic simliarities
2 of 15
what is the definition of species?
Animals that can mate to produce fertile offspring

K P C O F G S stands for what?
Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species
4 of 15
What is a parasitic relationship?
An organism living off another organism, only one organism benefits from it.
5 of 15
What is a mutualistic relationship?
A mutualistic relationship is when two organisms of different species "work together," each benefiting from the relationship.

What is evolution?
Species change slowly over time, it's because of genetic variation between species that makes evolution possible. The way we classify may change, often a group of organisms change so much that they form another species altogether

Describe the nitrogen cycle.
Nitrogen is used by all living things to produce proteins for growth and repair. Plants and animals cannot use the nitrogen in the atmosphere because it is very un-reactive. The nitrogen cycle describes how nitrogen is recycled into nature
9 of 15
What are 2 different ways nitrogen is recycled?
1- Plants absorb nitrates from the soil to make protein for growth. 2- Animals eat plants and use the nitrogen to make animal protein. This means nitrogen is passed along the food chain and food webs

Another way nitrogen is recycled is....
Dead plants and animals are broken down by decomposers which realease nitrates back into the soil

Carbon Cycle
Carbon is also recycled in the sea, marine organism shells are made of carbonates&drop to the sea bed as organisms die. The shells fossilise into limestone rock. Volcanic eruptions heat the rock and release carbon dioxide into atmosphere.

How do oceans act as CARBON SINKS?
They can absorb carbon dioxide directly from the air.

What is natural selection?
When certain individuals are better suited to their environment they are more likely to survive and breed passing on their characteristics to the next generation.

What is an extremophile?
An organism that can adapt to live in extreme conditions
