What is respiration?
Respiration is a chemical reaction. It takes place in every living cell in every living organism. It is the process by which our bodies release energy from glucose.

Glucose + Oxygen =Carbon Dioxide +Water +Energy.

What are the waste products of respiration?
The waste products are Carbon Dioxide and Water.

What happens if respiration happens in our bodies?
We need to get the oxygen into the body and we also need to get rid of the waste gases, like Carbon Dioxide. This is called gas exchange.

What is Diffusion?
Diffusion is the movement of a liquid or a gas from a high concentration to a low concentration

What happens in the Alveoli?
Oxygen is inhaled air diffuses into the blood and the Carbon Dioxide diffuses from the blood into the Alveoli, where it is exhaled

How are the Alveoli Adapted for gas exchange?
The walls are Permeable, The Alveoli and Capillary walls are only one cell thick, They have a moist layer of lining, They are surrounded by a dense Capillary network, And they have a fast flowing blood supply, constant diffusion gradient.

When does respiration occur?
In the presence of oxygen.

What happens if the cells don't get enough oxygen?
Respiration will still take place, but it is known as Anaerobic Respiration

Glucose= Lactic Acid + Energy
