What is a nucleus?
The brain of a cell, rhat controls the cell and carries genetic information.
1 of 20
What 3 parts are only in plant cells?
Cell wall, vacuole and chloroplasts.
2 of 20
What is a ribosome?
They are structures that make protein. Proteins are used to repair the cell.
3 of 20
What is mitochondria?
Mitochondria are the energy factories of the cell. Respiration happens here
4 of 20
What is the function of a nerve cell?
Nerve cells transmit electrical impulses.
5 of 20
What is a prokaryotic cell?
Prokaryotic means "before nucleus" becuase prokaryotic cells don't have a nucleus
6 of 20
What is a eukaryotic cell?
Eukaryotic means "with nucleus" becuase eukaryotic cells have a nucleus.
7 of 20
What is DNA?
The molecule that carries the genetic code.
8 of 20
What is a gene?
A section of DNA that codes for one characteristics.
9 of 20
What is a chromosome?
A molecule of DNA wound up
10 of 20
What is diffusion?
Net movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
11 of 20
What is a partially permeable membrane?
It is a membrane with very small holes so only small particles can fit through.
12 of 20
What are the three factors that affect the rate of diffusion?
Temperature, surface area and concentration gradient.
13 of 20
What is osmosis?
Osmosis is the diffusion of water in and out of cells.
14 of 20
What is isotonic?
When the concentration inside and outside of the cell is the same.
15 of 20
What is hypertonic?
When the concentration outside of the cell is higher than the concentration on the inside.
16 of 20
What is hypotonic?
When the concentration inside the cell is higher than the concentration outside of the cell.
17 of 20
What is active transport?
Active transport is the form of transport that requires energy becuase it goes up
18 of 20
Name one example of active transport in plants?
Allows the abosrbtion to dilute minerals into the plant, through te roots.
19 of 20
Name one example of active transport in animals?
Also ansorbtion of glucose into the blood from the kidneys and intestine.
