Equation for photosynthesis
CO2 + H20 - (light) - O2 + C6H1206
1 of 8
What type of reaction is photosynthesis?
Endothermic, energy needed is supplied by the sun which is trapped by chlorophyll
2 of 8
Limiting factors - temperature
As it increases, so does rate of photosynthesis (more enegry provided), at around 45'C, rate drops to zero because enzymes are destroyed
3 of 8
Limiting factors - CO2 concentration
Increases with rate of photosynthesis, after a certain point an increase in CO2 has no further effect
4 of 8
Limiting factors - light intensity
As it increases so does rate of photosynthesis (more energy is provided), after a point, light intensity has no further effect
5 of 8
Leaf adaptations for photosynthesis
Broad leaves - larger surface area, thin - diffusion distance for gases is short, chlorophyll absorbs light, xylem bings water from soil, products removed through phloem, air spaces allow CO2 to get to cells and 02 leave by diffusion, stomata
6 of 8
Stomata
Regulate gas exchange and water loss, guard cells open / close stomata
7 of 8
Uses of glucose in plants
Starch - provides energy store when its dark, fat / oil stored in cells, cellulose to strengthen cell walls
