?
Give three examples of monomers?
-Monosaccharides -amino acids -nucleotides
1 of 9
What elements make up a carbohydrate?
Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen
2 of 9
What is an isomer?
Molecules with the same molecular formula but with the atoms structured differently
3 of 9
How do you carry out a test for reducing sugars?
-Add Benedicts reagent to the sample - Put in a gently boiling water bath
4 of 9
How do you know if a sample contains a reducing sugars after testing it?
The solution should turn a series of colours- Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange then Brick Red. A negative result and the solution remains blue.
5 of 9
What is a more accurate way of identifying the concentration of reducing sugars?
Filter the solution and weigh the precipitate
6 of 9
How can you test for non-reducing sugars?
Do the reducing sugars test and if it turns negative do this- Add dilute HCI - Heat in a water bath that has been brought to the boil- Neutralise it with hydrogen carbonate- Add Benedicts reagent.

What is cellulose used for?
It is the main component in keeping the structure of cell walls in plants.
