What is an immune response?
The response of the immune system to cells carrying foreign antigens. It results in the production of antibodies against the foreign cells and the destruction of those cells.

The body system which recognises and destroys foreign cells or proteins such as invading pathogens.

Giving a vaccine that allows immunity to develop without exposure to the disease itself.

What is an immunosuppressant drug?
A drug that suppresses the immune system of the recipient of a transplanted organ to prevent rejection.

Electrical signal carried along the neurons.

The variable for which values are changed or selected by the investigator.

Lichens or insects that are particularly sensitive to pollution and so can be used to indicate changes in the environmental pollution levels.

Molecule which will not dissolve in a particular solvent such as water.

A hormone involved in the control of blood sugar levels.

The muscles between the ribs which raise and lower them during breathing movements.

An enzyme which convert one form of a molecule into another.
