What are enzymes?
Enzymes are biologial catalysts which speed up chemical reactions inside all cells without being used up.

What are enzymes made of?
Enzymes are protein molecules, which means that they are made up of amino acids (between 100 and 1000).

What is special about enzymes?
When the amino acids join together into a long chain, it folds to create a unique 3D structure, creating an active site/lock.

What is the lock and key theory?
Lock and Key is one of the theories behind how enzymes fit together with substrates and act as biological catalysts that speed up a reaction in the body.

How does the lock and key theory work?
In this theory, the lock is the enzyme and the key is the substrate. Due to the active site having a specific shape, only the correct shaped/sized molecule can fit in.

What are the parts of the lock and key theory?
key= substrate ---- key hole= active site ---- lock= enzyme

After the reaction has happened, what happens?
After the reaction,the products are released and the enzyme is returned to its orignial state, ready to catalyse another reaction.
