Where are chromosomes?
Inside the nucelus

What is inside the structure of a chromosome?
Genes

Describe how the cloning of plant cuttings works.
A cutting is taken with bud and is kept warm and moist, but not in a very bright area. Eventually, new roots start to form.
3 of 16
What happens in the tissue culture process?
Tissue is taken from a parent plant and grown in a test tube/petri dish. Small plantlets start to grow and these are then planted.
4 of 16
Name two advantages and one disadvantage of 'cuttings'.
+'s- Cheap, quick, many plants made. -'s- All susceptible to the same disease.
5 of 16
What are two pluses and two minuses of tissue culture.
+'s- Small bit of parent plant needed, can be grown in a small space. -'s-long process, expensive.
6 of 16
Briefly explain the plant layering process.
Steam from a parent plant touches the soil, new roots then form.
7 of 16
Identify the key points to plant grafting.
Cut a portion from good plant. Put it on another plant. Plants must be compatible.
8 of 16
How does an embryo transplant work?
Sperm is taken from male. Inserted into female. Embryos are split into enzymes. Split embryos then placed in host mothers. offspring are clones of each other but have no resemblance of the host mother.
9 of 16
What is reproductive cloning?
A body cell is taken from one sheep and has DNA extracted, an egg cell is taken from another and has nucleus extracted. Egg cell and DNA are fused together with electricity. The cell develops an embryo and placed into host mother. A clone is born.
10 of 16
List 2 features that are inherited.
Natural eye colour. Natural hair colour.
11 of 16
Name 2 characteristics that are environmental.
Accent/language. Religion.
12 of 16
Name 2 features that are both environmental and genetic.
Height. Weight.
13 of 16
What is asexual reproduction?
A type of reproduction that requires one parent and off spring are identical to the parent.
14 of 16
Define sexual reproduction.
A type of reproduction that requires two parents and the off spring may resemble the parents but will not be identical.
15 of 16
How many chromosomes does a human have?
46, 23 from each parent.
