biology - animal cell ultra structure

?
plasma cells / membrane
- protects the cell from its surrounding
- allows substances in and out
1 of 12
cytoplasm
- liquid / jelly that fills the cell
- contains many dissolved substances
- lots of chemical reactions happen here
2 of 12
nucleus
- surrounded by a double membrane (envelope)
- has nuclear pores so things can get in and out
3 of 12
nucleolus
- region of defence
- produces ribosomes
- DNA
4 of 12
ribosomes
- makes proteins
- in a eukaryotic cell they are called "80S" ribosomes
- in a prokaryotic cell they are called "70S" ribosomes
5 of 12
rough endoplasmic reticulum
- flatted sacs with a membrane covered in ribosomes
6 of 12
smooth endoplasmic reticulum
- membrane tubes
- where lipids are made
- small membrane bound sacs for storing and transporting substances in the cell
7 of 12
glory apparatus
- flatted disk ~ like structures located close to the endoplasmic reticulum
- receive proteins and lipids from the rough end plasmic reticulum ~ it modifies some of them and sorts, concentrates and packs them into sealed droplets called vesicles
8 of 12
vesicles
small spherical membrane bound sacs with fluid inside them
- these are used to transport materials inside the cell and then uses secretory vesicle transport proteins
9 of 12
lysosomes
- small spherical membranes where they break down waste material including organelles
10 of 12
mitochondria
- two membranes and they reach the final stages of cellular respiration which involves the use of aerobic respiration that is shown
11 of 12
centrioles
- these are small tubes of protein fibres that form spindle fires during cell division
12 of 12
