Biology - B3 - Cell division

HideShow resource information
Becoming multicellular
Humans are multicellular. This allows an organism to become larger and more complex. Also allows cells to take on different jobs - Cell differentiation.
1 of 7
When an organism becomes multicellular, it needs to have systems that can:
1) Allow communication between all the cells in the body. 2) Supply all the cells with enough nutrients. 3) Control exchanges with the environment such as heat and gases
2 of 7
What is the process that produces new cells called?
Mitosis.
3 of 7
Explain mitosis
Mitosis is cell division that results in genetically identical diploid cells.
4 of 7
What must take place before cell division (mitosis)?
DNA replication
5 of 7
What is the type of cell division that produces gametes called?
Meiosis
6 of 7
Explain meiosis.
Meiosis is cell division that results in haploid cells.
