HideShow resource information
What affects both local and global environments?
Human activities.
1 of 11
There is a lot of evidence for environmental change, what do scientist need to check?
The validity and the reproducibility of the data collected.
2 of 11
What human activities can affect the global environment?
Deforestation, increases in rice growing and rearing cattle and building dams to store water in reservoirs.
3 of 11
How does deforestation affect the global environment?
It causes increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
4 of 11
How doe increases in rice growing and rearing cattle affect the global environment?
It results in more methane being released.
5 of 11
How does building dams to store water in reservoirs affect the global environment?
It causes loss of habitats, drying out of rivers below the dams and reduction in fertile land to grow crops.
6 of 11
How can it be very difficult to ensure that data collected in relation to the environment is valid and reliable?
There are huge amounts of environmental data produced by many different scientists in many different countries.
7 of 11
How can scientist often come to different conclusions even when considering the same data?
Explanations sometimes depend on the individual opinions of the scientist and can be biased.
8 of 11
Why does the issue of global warming divide opinion?
Many people think the Earth's temperature has increased due to increases in greenhouse gases, whereas others say the increase is part of a natural cycle.
9 of 11
Why do humans build dams?
To build reservoirs to store water for human consumption.
