How do we use Chemical breakdown to digest food?
To chemically breakdown food.E.g the enzymes in the saliva.
2 of 27
What route does your food travel?
Food enters mouth, teeth mechanically breaksdown food, saliva gets added to broken down food, then goes down the gullet, enzymes breaks the rest of the food down, moves into small intestine, large intestine then anus.

What is amylase?
Amylase is a protein enzyme that catalyses (is the process of increasing the rate of a chemical reaction) hydrolysis of starch into sugars.
4 of 27
Where would you find Amylase?
It is found in the saliva.
5 of 27
What does Amylase do?
Begins the chemical process of digestion.
6 of 27
What pH does amylase work best at?
pH5 as it broke down the quickest.

What does red blood cells contain and what is their job?
Contains haemoglobin and carry oxygen around the body. Have no nucleus and a large surface area.
8 of 27
What does white blood cells produce and what do they do?
Kill invading microbes by producing anti bodies or engulfing the microbe.
9 of 27
What are platelets and what do they do?
Small bits of cells that lie around waiting for cut to happen so they can clot.
10 of 27
All of the red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets are carried around by plasma, what does it do?
Transports Carbon Dioxide and glucose as well as taking waste products to the kidneys.
