Biology B2 2.3 How plants use glucose

?
What do plant and algal cells produce during photosynthesis?
Glucose.
1 of 6
What do plants and algae need to make proteins?
Nitrate ions.
2 of 6
How might the soluble glucose produced by photosynthesis be used?
It may be converted into insoluble starch for storage, used for respiration, converted into fats and oils for storage, used to produce cellulose which strengthens cell walls or used to produce proteins.
3 of 6
What do plant and algal cells need a supply of mineral ions, such as nitrate ions, to produce?
Protein. Plants absorb nitrate ions from the soil and algae absorb nitrate ions from the water they live in.
4 of 6
What three substances are used for storage in plants?
Starch, fats and oils.

**REMEMBER THAT ALTHOUGH GLUCOSE IS A SUGAR IT CAN BE CONVERTED INTO OTHER SUBSTANCES WHICH THE PLANTS OR ALGAE NEED**
