What is yeast?
Yeast is a single-celled organism, which is different from animal and plant cells.

How can bacteria be seen?
Because bacteria are very small they can only be seen with a powerful microscope.

What is the structure of bacterial cells like?
Bacterial cells have a cell membrane and a cell wall which surround cytoplasm. Bacteria do not have a nucleus so the genetic material is in the cytoplasm.

What happens when bacteria multiply?
They form a colony, bacterial colonies can be seen with the naked eye.

What is the structure of yeast cells like?
Yeast cells have a nucleus, cytoplasm and a membrane surrounded by a cell wall.

Why is it possible to see a bacterial colony but not a single bacterium?
One bacterium is very tiny. Many bacteria massed together to form a colony can be seen.
