Biology B2 1.1 Animal and plant cells

?
What do most human cells contain?
Like most animal cells they contain a nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria and ribosomes.
1 of 15
What do plant and algal cells contain?
Everything in an animal cell plus many also contain chloroplasts and a permanent valour filled with sap.
2 of 15
Why are plant cells different from animal cells?
Because they have different functions.
3 of 15
What are all living things made of?
Cells.
4 of 15
How big are cells?
Cells are small and can only be seen with microscopes, light microscopes are used in schools. Electron microscopes make things thousands of times larger.
5 of 15
In a cell, what is the function of a nucleus?
To control the cell's activities.
6 of 15
In a cell, what is the function of cytoplasm?
It is where many chemical reactions take place.
7 of 15
In a cell, what is the function of a cell membrane?
It controls the movement of materials in and out of the cell.
8 of 15
In a cell what is the function of mitochondria?
It is where energy is released during aerobic respiration.
9 of 15
In a cell, what is the function of ribosomes?
It is where the protein synthesis takes place.
10 of 15
In plant and algal cells, what is the rigid cell wall made of?
Cellulose for support.
11 of 15
In plant and algal cells, what is the function of chloroplasts?
They contain chlorophyll for photosynthesis; the chloroplasts absorb light energy to make food.
12 of 15
In plant and algal cells, what contains sap?
A permanent vacuole.
13 of 15
What are algae?
Simple aquatic organisms which have many features similar to plant cells.
14 of 15
In which part of the cell is energy released during respiration?
Mitochondrion (ia).
