What are the essential nutrients you need from a balanced diet?
Carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, water, fibre

What are carbohydrates made of and where are they stored?
Made of simple sugars e.g. glucose. Stored in the liver as glycogen or are converted into fats.

Fatty acids or glycerol. Stored under skin/around organs as adipose tissue.

Amino acids. They don't get stored.

Kwashiorkor. It is mainly a problem in developing countries.

Estimated Average daily Requirement of protein. EAR (g) = 0.6 x body mass (kg)

Body Mass Index. A guide to whether you are underweight, healthy, overweight or obese.

BMI = body mass (kg)/(height (m))2

If someone has a BMI of 24 are they healthy?
Yes.

Why is BMI not always reliable?
Athletes have a lot of muscle, that weighs more than fat. They come out with a high BMI even though they are healthy.
