Osmosis
>water particles > high conc of water to low conc of water (dilute solution to concentrated) >semi-permeable membrane
1 of 12
Active transport
>requires energy from respiration >low to high > against a conc. gradient >mineral ions into root cell
2 of 12
Diffusion
>high to low > gas exchange in lungs
3 of 12
Amylase
> starch-sugar > salivary glands and pancreas
4 of 12
Protease
>proteins- amino acids > stomach, pancreas and small intestine
5 of 12
Lipase
> fats- fatty acids + glycerol > pancreas and small intestine
6 of 12
Bile
>made in liver but stored in gall bladder > neutralises stomach scid (HCL)

What are 3 components of blood?
white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets
8 of 12
Red blood cells
contains haemoglobin which binds to oxygen to transport from lungs to cells and tissues. no nucleus so more room for haemoglobin. very small and large surface area for quick diffusion.
9 of 12
White blood cells
protect body from infections. can change shape so can get out of blood vessels into tissues
10 of 12
Platelets
collect at wounds and trigger blood clotting (scabs)
11 of 12
Describe journey of blood through the heart
vena cava> right atrium> right ventricle> pulmonary artery> pulmonary vein> left atrium> left ventricle> aorta
