What was the aim of the study?
To see if there is a relationship between social and physical aggression and to see what extent social aggression can be explained by environment and genetics

322 twin pairs from Quebec with 237 same sex pairs

How was the study carried out?
Teachers rated the children's social and physical aggression levels and then the children were asked to circle the three photos who fit behaviour descriptions (two for social and two for physical aggression)

What were the results of the study?
Boys were said to be more physically aggressive and girls more socially aggressive. There was a high correlation in MZ twins for physical aggression and all twins had similar ratings on social aggression

What was concluded from the study?
That physical aggression is down to genetics whereas social aggression was said to be down to the environment

Why was the study high in validity?
The children were asked not to share their answers which would eliminate demand characteristics

Because it was a very large sample for a twin study which means it is more generalisable to the wider twin population

Because it was quantitative data which means the results can be analysed and compared which makes them more credible and reliable

It doesn't provide a lot of depth so it cannot be offered as a whole explanation

There are children in the study so there could be consent issues

There wasn't enough types of twins and the results may not be applicable to people who aren't a twin
