What are hormones?

It lowers the activation threshold which makes the amygdala more active, and it shortens the refractory period meaning more signals are fired

Cortisol is a hormone that contributes to stress and it restrains aggression, so balances the aggression out

How is this approach scientific?
Because we are physically measuring something and this makes the theory objective which makes the results more redible

He injected female rats with testosterone which made them aggressive which supports the theory and makes it higher in validity

How can we use animal studies to our benefit?
We can test certain areas that would be considered unethical on a human to gain more evidence

Why can animal studies be considered a weakness as well?
Because animals have a completely different brain structure so we will struggle to apply the results to humans

How is Mazur's study conflicting evidence?
Because he found that winners in a tennis game had higher levels of testosterone than the losers, which suggests that it is more about dominance than aggression, making the theory less credible as an explanation

Why can't we establish a cause?
Because we don't know whether aggression causes an increase of testosterone or whether testosterone increases aggression which makes it less reliable
