2 of 10
What bonds form between water?
Hydrogen bonds
3 of 10
What is cohesion?
When the hydrogen bonds in the water keep the molecules together.
4 of 10
Why does water not heat up or cool down easily?
The molecules are held together quite tightly by hydrogen bonds. It takes energy to break these bonds, and so the high heat capacity provides thermal stability, making water a stable habitat.
5 of 10
How is water being thermally stable a benifit to organsims?
It makes a stable environment for aquatic organisms.
6 of 10
Why is water being able to form a liquid a benifit to organisms?
It can act as a transport medium in animals and plants.
7 of 10
Why is the low density of ice a benifit to organisms?
Ice floats on water and insulates the water below.
8 of 10
Why is the surface tension of water a benifit to organisms?
Small animals can move across the surface of the water.
9 of 10
Why is cohesion of water a benifit to organisms?
Water molecules form a strong water column that moves up the xylem in plants.
