Stimulus
A detectable change in the internal or external environment of an organism that produces a response
1 of 7
Receptor
Transforms the energy of a stimulus into some form of energy that can be processed by the organism which leads to a response
2 of 7
Effector
A range of different cells e.g. tissues, organs and systems which carries out the response
3 of 7
Coordinator
Acts like a switchboard, connects information from each receptor with the appropriate effector
4 of 7
Taxis
A simple response whose direction is determined by the direction of the stimulus
5 of 7
Kinesis
A form of response in which the organism does not move towards or away from a stimulus. Instead, the more unpleasant the stimulus, the more rapidly it moves and the more rapidly it changes direction, results in an increase in random movements
6 of 7
Tropism
A growth movement of part of a plant in response to a direction stimulus. The plant grows towards (positive) or away from (negative) the stimulus.
