What does the hypothalamus do?
I
2 of 9
What hormones are released by the pituitary gland?
Oxytocin and ADH
3 of 9
What hormones are released by the anterior pituitary ?
GH, Prolactin, Follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, thyroid stimulaing hormone, adrenocotricotropic hormone
4 of 9
What hormones are released by the thyroid gland?
Triiodothyorinine (T3) and Thyroxine (t4), Calcitonin
5 of 9
What hormone is releaed by the parathyroid gland?
Parathyroid homone
6 of 9
What are the functions of the hypothalamus?
Secretion of regulatory hormones to control activity of anterior pituitary, control of sympathetic outpt to adrenal medullae, production of ADH and oxytocin,
7 of 9
What is the hypophyseal portal system?
Communication from hypothalamus to the anterior pituitary gland. Regulatory hormones from hypothalamus transported to anterior pituitary via hypophyseal portal system.
8 of 9
How is regulation by the hypothalamus and pitutitary ochieved?
Releasing hormone (RH) causes hormone 1 release from anterior pituitary. Gormone 1 cuases hormone 2 release from taget endocrine organ. Hormone 2 inhibits release of RH and hormone 1. Hormone 2 has effects upon target cells.
