Explain the process of mitosis.
In the nucleus there are 23 pairs of chromosomes. The chromosomes are copied to make 46 pairs. The chromosomes line up across the middle, then the chromosomes separate and the nucleus starts to divide. Half the chromatids are in each new nucleus.

The cell divides in 2, and in 2 again so there is 23 single chromosomes. Each new cell is genetically different to the parent, and each other.
