What is Monism?
Monists do not believe that humans have a seperate soul. Similar to materialism.

What does Christianity teach about bodily resurrection?
Christ's resurrection was physical and gives believers hope that they too will be resurrected.

John Hick
He argued the Replica Theory - as long as memories, character and appearance are the same the replica is the same. This is compatibe with St paul's teaching that our eartly bodies will decay but we will be raised with a new heavenly body.

What is Dualism?
That the body and soul are seperate entities. Some Christians favour this, although can argue Christianity is monist as the physical resurrection of Christ is central.

Modified dualism
Aquinas - argued a person is made up of 2 equally important parts- so need physical body in afterlife. A disembodied soul is not a person. physical body stays in the ground, whilst soul goes to purgatory,it is the reunited with new body on j day.

Beatific vision
When God reveals himself to us in Heaven 'face to face' (1 Corinthians)

Reincarnation
Hindu belief in rebirth. Key terms - samsara, atman, karma, moksha.

What is the secular view?
Most atheists do not believe in life after death.

Hard materialism
believes that everything about a human being can be explained by the physical aspect eg Dawkins

Soft materialism
believes that mental processes can interact and affect the physical aspect of a human eg G Ryle.

Intermediate place between heaven and hell where soul goes for purification.

Judgement Day, heaven and hell.
