Name the three Behaviourist assumptions
Blank Slate, Behaviour Is Learnt Through Conditioning and Humans and Animal Learn In Similar Ways.
1 of 10
What is Classical Conditioning?
Classical conditioning occurs when an association is made between a previously unlearned response, and a neutral stimulus. If two are paired enough times, eventually the neutral stimulus will produce the unlearned response.
2 of 10
What is Operant Conditioning?
Operant conditioning involves learning through reinforcement. It is more voluntary than the learning seen in classical conditioning. This is when people behave in a particular way and are rewarded for it, they will repeat it.
3 of 10
How is a relationship formed through the Behaviourist Approach?
Pet and Owner Relationship Or Romantic Relationship
4 of 10
What therapy used in the Behaviourist Approach?
Systematic Desensitisation (SD)
5 of 10
What is the aim of Systematic Desensitisation?
It is to counter condition (unlearn or relearn); the client is taught a new association that runs counter (opposite) to the original association e.g. relaxation instead of the fear.
6 of 10
What are the main components of Systematic Desensitisation?
Four main steps; fear hierarchy.
7 of 10
What is extrapolation?
Generalising findings from animals to humans and they don’t learn in the same way
8 of 10
What are the strengths of the Behaviourist Approach?
Scientific, Focuses on here and no, successful applications e.g. SD
9 of 10
What are the weaknesses of the Behaviourist Approach?
