Heavy monsoon rainfall. River was chocked with material from Himalayas. 20% of land is less than one Meter above sea level. Land is very flat with not much forrestation.

There was rapid urbanisation in the capital (population of 7mill). Due to population pressure deforestation. High population density so building on flood plains.
