What is the correct aim of the study?
To investigate social lerning theory by finding out whether children will imitate aggressive behaviour when given the opportunity, even if they saw these behaviours in a different environment and the model is no longer present.
1 of 18
Where did the study take place?
In a lab setting
2 of 18
How were the children split into groups?
matched triplets for aggression, matched by an experimenter who knew the children and one of their children, was matched on both verbal and physical aggression
3 of 18
How many children were in the sample?
36 boys and 36 girls
4 of 18
How old were the children?
Between 37 months and 69 months
5 of 18
What were the three rooms called?
Modelling stage, aggression arousal and delayed imitation
6 of 18
What happened in the modelling stage?
The room contained a child play area and a modelling play area, the child was made to play with potato stamps and stickers. The model would either play aggressively with the Bobo doll or non-aggressively with the tinker toy
7 of 18
What happened in the aggression arousal stage?
The room contains attractive toys, the child is allowed to play for two minutes but is then told by the experimenter "these are my best toys, they are for the other children to play with, you may play with the toys in the next room."
8 of 18
What happend in the delayed imitation stage?
The room contains both aggressive and non aggressive toys. the child is left to play with what they want, they are observed by two observers behind a mirror who take observations every 5 seconds for 20 minutes.
9 of 18
What was the IV of the experiment?
The observed situation - either aggressive/non-aggressive, male/female
10 of 18
What was the DV of the experiment?
The amount of aggression demonstrated by the child in a later situation, as measured by two observers scoring the subject's behaviour at 5 second intervals.
11 of 18
What was hypothesis 1?
A child who saw a aggressive role model would reproduce more aggressive acts
12 of 18
Whas hypothesis 1 supported? (aggressive model = aggressive acts)
Yes
13 of 18
What was hypothesis 2?
Children that saw the less aggressive role model would act less aggressively than children who did not have a model.
14 of 18
Was hypothesis 2 supported? (non-aggressive model = LESS aggressive behaviour)
No
15 of 18
What was hypothesis 3?
Same sex models are more likely to be imitated
16 of 18
Was hypothesis 3 supported? (Boys would imitate men, Girls would imitate women)
Partially (boys imitated men for physical aggression, girls imitated women for verbal aggression)
17 of 18
What is hypothesis 4?
