What is the Central Nervous System (CNS)
In vertebrates (animals with backbones) this consists of the brain and spinal cord only. In mammals, the CNS is connected to the body by sensory neurones and motor neurones -these make up the peripheral nervous system (PNS)
1 of 7
Sensory Neurones
The neurones that carry impulses from the receptors to the CNS.
2 of 7
Motor Neurones
The neurones that carry impulses from the CNS to effectors.
3 of 7
Effectors
All your muscles and glands, which respnd to nervous impulses.
4 of 7
The Central Nervous System (CNS)
The CNS is a processing centre- it recieves information from the receptors and then co-ordinates the response.
5 of 7
Receptors
cells that detect stimuli. •There are many different types of receptors, such as taste receptors on the tongue and sound receptors in the ears. •Receptors can form part of larger complex organs e.g. the retina of the eye is covered in light receptor
6 of 7
Types of effectors
Muscle cells -- which make up muscles Hormone secreting cells - which are found in glands, e.g. cells that secrete the hormone ADH are found in the pituitary gland.
