Wat are the three parts of your blood circulation system?
The blood vessels, the heart and the blood
1 of 12
What is a double circulation?
Two transport systems within the body, one of which carries blood to your lungs and back, while the other carries blood all over your body and back to the heart
2 of 12
Why is a double circulation vital in active, warm blooded creatures?
It makes our circulatory system very efficient
3 of 12
What happens to blood when it returns to the heart from the lungs?
It is fully oxygenated and can be sent of to different parts of the body at high pressure, so more areas of the body can receive fully oxygenated blood quickly.
4 of 12
What carries blood to and from the heart?
Arteries carry blood away from the heart, while veins carry it back
5 of 12
The walls of the heart are made almost entirely of muscle. What supplies this muscle with oxygen?
the Coronary Arteries
6 of 12
Where does blood enter your heart?
In the top chambers, called the atria
7 of 12
What blood comes into the right atrium?
Deoxygenated blood, which enters through the Vena Cava
8 of 12
What blood comes into the left atrium?
Oxygenated blood from the lungs, which comes in through the Pulmonary Vein
9 of 12
What happens when the atria contract together?
Blood is forced down into the ventricles
10 of 12
What is the purpose of valves?
They stop blood from flowing backwards out of the heart
11 of 12
What do the ventricles do?
The right contracts and forces deoxygenated blood out of the heart into the pulmonary artery to go to the lungs, while the left forces oxygenated blood out of the heart into the aorta to be pumped around the body
