What is active transport?
It's the movement of particles across a partially permeable membrane agains a concentration gradient. Think idiot bird trying fly against strong wind: it needs energy to take place.

What is an advantage of active transport?
It enables cells to absorb ions from very dilute solutions, like a rich person taking money from somebody already poorer than them, minus the unkindness, because I seriously doubt that the solution outside the cell has the capability to care.

Where does the energy needed for active transport come from?
It comes from cellular respiration by the mitochondria

How does active transport take place?
The useful molecule is grabbed (actually don't say grabbed, it's not a mugging, say secured) by the transport protein in the cell membrane. The protein rotates, using energy, and releases the molecule inside the cell. It then rotates back.

What do plants use active transport for?
To move mineral ions from the soil into the roots against the concentration gradient...so that they can hoard them forever!..I mean use them for planty things...

The cells lining your gut. They transport lots of useful things very actively...like glucose
