How do animals adapt?
Adaptation make animals and individuals more lickly to survive and go on to produce offspring. e.g. Fish have gills to help them to breathe underwater. They also have tail fins with a large surface area to allow them to propel underwater also.

How plants do use energy from the sun?
Plants absorb 1-3% of light from the sun that fall on their leaves. Photosynthesis uses this energy. This produces a chemical reaction that makes plant cells and store energy. Plants are producers. Animals, bacteria and fungi rely of plants for food.
2 of 19
What is a spieces?
A species is a group of organisms that can breed together to produce fertile offspring.
3 of 19
What is Natural selection?
Natural selection is the process that causes evolution . It is when the environment causes something to change so that the organism are better at adapting, to survive and breed.
4 of 19
What is selective breeding ?
When humans are the cause of a change towards animals and plants e.g. being able to change the colours of plants. Selective breeding is also a variation within spices where the farmer picks the animals with the characteristics that they want to breed

What is the difference between Lamarck and Darwins theories of evolution?
Darwin: Theory of evolution by natural selection over time, and only some animals evolved. Lamarack: Theory that characteristics just became more developed over time and simple living things should disappear.
6 of 19
How do we get a new variation of spieces?
From mutations in the DNA
7 of 19
what is Compition?
When animals and plants compete with each other for the things they need.( two different spices that need exactly the same thing)
8 of 19
what is the chemiacl equation for photosynthesis?
6CO2 + 6H20-> C6H12O6 + 6O2
9 of 19
What is the effeciency of energy transfer
effciency= energy available to the next stage/ energy that was availabe to the previous stage * 100
10 of 19
How is carbon dioxide added into the atmosphere?
respiration, burning fossil fuels, volcanic activity, decompostion
11 of 19
how is carbon dioxide taken from the atmosphere?
photosynthesis, dissolved in shallow and deep ocean water
12 of 19
How is nitrogen added into the atmosphere?
dead organisms, protien in plants, protiens in animals
13 of 19
what is nitrogen fixing?
conversion of nitrogen gas in the soil. occurs either by lightning or by nitorgen fixing bacteria in the soil or the roots of plants
14 of 19
what is denitrifing bacteria?
converts nitrates in the soil to nitrogen gas in the air.
15 of 19
what is nitifying bacteria?
converts ammonia in the soil into nitrates
16 of 19
biodivesity
Biodivesity includes: the number of different spieces on earth, the range of different types of orangisms , the genetic variation between organisms of the same spices.
17 of 19
How do we measure enviromental change?
tempreture, nitrate level, carbon dioxide level
18 of 19
what is sustainabilty?
sustainability means meeting the needs of today's population without harming the environment so that future generations can still meet their own needs.
