Cornea?Job?
Cornea refracts light into eye & it's the transparent front of the eye
1 of 17
Iris?Job?
Controls amount of light enters the pupil by controlling the pupil's size and is the coloured part of the eye
2 of 17
Pupil?
The space/hole in centre of Iris that allows light to enter thru it
3 of 17
Lens?Function?
Refracts light & focuses it onto Retina . It changes shape to allow us to focus on nearby/distant objects
4 of 17
Retina?Job?
Retina:back of eye and is light sensitive-it contains receptors called rods and cones which detect light. The retina sends an electrical impulse to brain via Optical Nerve
5 of 17
Optical Nerve job?
Optical nerve carries impulses from the receptors to brain
6 of 17
Why are people Long/Short sighted?
People are long/short sighted cos they can't focus light rays onto Retina correctly
7 of 17
Posh name for Long-Sight?
Hyperopia
8 of 17
What can't you do if you're long-sighted?
You can't focus on nearby objects
9 of 17
Causes of Long sight?
Eyeball too short-light focused at a point behind retina or Lens become less elastic, especially in elderly-lens can't become thick enough to focus on near objects
10 of 17
Treatment for Long Sight?
Wear glasses/contact lenses with convex lens
11 of 17
What can't you do if you're short sighted?
you can't focus on distant objects
12 of 17
causes of short sight?
eyeball too long or lens too thick, i.e. you lens can't be pulled thin- both these mean light focused at a point infront of Retina
13 of 17
Treatment for Short sight?
wear glasses/contact lenses with concave lenses(partially unfocus light before entering eye) or do Corneal laser surgery-where you change shape of Cornea, so it refracts light more/less
14 of 17
Posh name for Short Sight?
Myopia
15 of 17
Colour Blindness? Most common type + cause?
u can't tell difference between certain colours-most common red-green colour blindness-when red/green cones in retina don't work correctly
16 of 17
Treatment 4 colour blindness?
colour blindness can't be cured but u can wear tinted lenses to help see colours more normally
