Biotechnology is the alteration of natural molecules using science and engineering.

-They grow rapidly -Can be grown in fermenters in almost any location -They have DNA which is easy to manipulate

Bacteria ferment milk, changing the lactose in milk to lactic acid

How do enzymes help make soft centred sweets?
The enzyme invertase breaks down the sugar sucrose and into glucose and fructose

What two enzymes are often used in washing powders?
Protease and carbohydrase

Why could vegetarians/vegans/etc not eat cheese in the past?
The enzyme chymosin was obtained from the stomach of calves but is now found from other microorganisms once genetically modified
