B2 - Plant Structure and Photosynthesis

  • Cellualr make-up of plants
  • Equation of photosynthesis
  • Photosynthesis process
?
What is the cellular structure of plants?
Plant organs (stems, roots and leaves) are made of plant tissues e.g. mesophyll tissue - where most of photosynthesis takes place, xylem and phloem - they transport things like water, mineral ions and sucrose, epidermal tissue - covers the plant.
1 of 5
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water -> glucose + oxygen
2 of 5
What is the definition of photosythesis?
The process by which food (glucose) is created in plants.
3 of 5
How does photosythesis work?
Sunlight beating down on the leaf provides energy for for the process. Chlorophyll is contained in mesophyll. Water reaches the cells via the xylem and carbon dioxide diffuses into the leaf.
4 of 5
Where does photosynthesis occur?
In chloroplasts.
