What does Mitosis produce?
Two daughter cells that are genetically indentical to eachother and to the parent cell
1 of 16
What sort of cells does Mitosis produce?
Body cells
2 of 16
What are the body cells required for?
For growth or to replace damaged cells
3 of 16
What do human diploid cells contain?
23 sets of chromosomes
4 of 16
What is DNA replication?
When chromosomess start to make copies of themeselves
5 of 16
What does Meiosis produce?
Four haploid cells
6 of 16
Why is Meiosis needed?
To make Gametes (egg and sperm cells)
7 of 16
State the differences between Mitosis and Meiosis?
Mitosis produces 2 daughter cells that are indentical, whereas Meiosis produces 4 daughter cells that are non-identical. Mitosis has 2 sets of chromosomes in the nucleus, and Meiosis only 1 set
8 of 16
Explain how Mitosis occurs.
Mitosis begins with DNA replication. The copies of the chromosomes separate and then the cell divides again. This produces 2 daughter cells that are genetically indentical to themselves and to the parent cell.
9 of 16
Explain how Meiosis occurs.
Meiosis also begins with DNA replication, but is followed by two cell divisions. The first separates the two sets of chromosomes, and the second separates the copies of each chromosome. This produces 4 haploid cells, which are all different.

What are Clones?
Clones are individuals that are genetically indentical.
11 of 16
Advantage of cloning animals?
Cloned animals such as cattle and chickens can be bred to provide more milk and eggs than animals that are naturally reproduced.
12 of 16
Disavantage of cloning animals?
Cloned animals are very prone to disease and tend to die young of multisystem failure.
13 of 16
What is a Stem Cell?
An unspecialised cell that can divide to produce more stem cells or different kinds of specialised cell.
14 of 16
Advantages of Stem Cells
-- Embryonic stem cells can change into any cells, such as nerve cells, muscle tissues etc. -Diseases such as Parkinson’s disease can be cured
15 of 16
Disadvantages of Stem Cells
-Creating new cells and tissues doesn’t always succeed. -Stem cells can cause ethnic problems such as religious viewpoints.
