AQA Unit 2 Biology

Some quick revision questions for B2 biology that would most likely get you full marks if the question was asked :D These answers were taken from both my teacher and the CGP revision guide.

?
What is diffusion?
The net movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration
1 of 15
What factors could speed up diffusion (4 factors)?
Higher Temperature, Shorter Diffusion Distance, Larger Surface Area and Steeper Concentration Gradient
2 of 15
How are Palisade cells adapted for photosynthesis?
They have lots of chloroplasts, are tall so have a large surface area and are thin so lots can be fit together at the top of the leaf.
3 of 15
What does the Xylem transport?
Water
4 of 15
What does the Phloem transport?
Nutrients and Mineral Ions
5 of 15
How do plants use glucose (5 ways)?
For respiration, making cell walls, making proteins, stored in seeds and stored as starch
6 of 15
What is the role of an enzyme?
To catalyse/speed up a reaction within a living thing
7 of 15
What are the 3 digestive enzymes and what do they digest?
Amylase - Starch, Protease - Proteins and Lipase - Fats (or Lipids)
8 of 15
What does the Large Intestine do?
Absorbs excess water
9 of 15
What does the Liver do?
Makes bile to neutralise stomach acids and emulsify fats.
10 of 15
What does the Small Intestine do?
Produces amylase, protease and lipase enzymes to complete digestion and absorbs the digested food out of the digestive system and into the blood.
11 of 15
What is respiration?
The process of releasing energy from glucose which goes into every cell.
12 of 15
What is the aerobic respiration equation?
oxygen + glucose ---> carbon dioxide + water + energy
13 of 15
What is the anaerobic respiration equation?
glucose ---> energy + lactic acid
14 of 15
What does anaerobic respiration lead to?
Oxygen debt
